This decision was taken entirely with our guests’ safety and enjoyment in mind, and as it turned out it resulted in our guests remaining safe in their hotel and able to continue their holiday once travel restrictions had been lifted. As the precise path of the cyclone and the duration of its impact was impossible for anyone to predict, in accordance with the Package Travel Regulations, we took the decision to continue your tour which took you in a North-westerly direction, to the Bay of Islands, which was further away from its predicted path. With regard to the arrival of Cyclone Gabrielle, the predicted path (and in fact the actual path) of the cyclone was for the eye of the storm to make landfall just to the east of Auckland, around the Coromandel Peninsula, and move in a South-easterly direction. We appreciate these last-minute changes were far from ideal and were not communicated as well as they should have been at the time, for which we apologise. With the imminent arrival of Cyclone Gabrielle, the decision was taken that it was in the best interests and safety of all our hundreds of guests in New Zealand for him to remain in control of the logistics of all our tours, which were impacted to various degrees by the cyclone. Our first stand-in Tour Manager had been seconded to cover another illness, and our second stand-in was the Managing Director of our Partner Company in New Zealand. Firstly, the original Tour Manager was taken ill just 48 hours prior to your arrival into New Zealand. We’re delighted you had a good experience in Australia, but naturally we are sorry your holiday in New Zealand was impacted by two unfortunate events. Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent holiday.
